rough info!?!?! for le test drive purposes

CEREEN

age: 17 going on 18 (now i have that song stuck in my head)
status: princess!?
powers/abilities: random plot-related magical powers that are actually quite useless for 99% of things, and sword/self-defence training

the basics you need to know about cereen:
  • she's a princess; the classic kind, comes from Medieval Land™ (though it does have a few more liberal laws for its time - such as the eldest always being the heir regardless of gender and women, though looked down upon, are allowed to hold positions in the army. eventually it's discovered this is because of Plot Reasons) and has two siblings - her brother, the eldest and heir to the throne, and her younger sister
  • SPOILERS her younger sister is the Big Bad of the story and her childhood friend, thoren, is in love with her sister and ends up betraying cereen - as a result, she has a few trust issues and is a little less naive than your average princess
  • while still a novice, cereen has received army training and hopes to participate in the war that... uh. well that her sister started. her brother does not approve, but they're too close for him to prohibit it
and the very very basic plot outline:

  • her world is built upon the idea of the Story; sort of like a prophecy, but built around story tropes and characters. the Story is essentially a prophecy destined to repeat every five hundred years. it's a pretty standard tale - the princess is taken captive by the villain and the knight must save her before she's used as a sacrifice to summon a demon that will destroy the world. in every cycle, the knight has succeeded in saving the princess and they've "lived happily ever after" - you know, in the real world with war and famine and assassinations and all those lovely oft-ignored things.
  • the god(dess) of  her world is called the Storyteller, and enforces this story. it's not clear why to anyone - the priests say it's because it keeps the world in balance, but typically, this turns out to be an embellishment.
  • the royal family has actually been attempting to subvert the Story for centuries, by allowing female heirs to become queen and women to receive formal training in the army. it's said that if the Story does not go as it's meant to, a new world will be born. this is what cereen's ancestors have been trying to accomplish.
  • cereen's sister also decides to take matters into her own hands, leading cereen to the place where the Story takes place, intent on becoming the knight of the tale rather than the useless damsel. instead, cereen unlocks the power within the tomb (which is called the tome, because puns) and rather than summoning a corrupted demon - as it depends on the user's own desires and wishes - she summons lyria
  • and thus, cereen becomes the mythmaker and lyria becomes the myth made flesh - and the Story begins to change drastically from that point onwards
